It started with a silly comment!

My friend Alice from school is an animal lover.  She also has a very tender heart towards dogs.  She post pictures on Facebook all of the time of dogs in high kill shelters that need fostering before they can find their forever home.  She fostered a puppy mama over Christmas that had 9 puppies while in her care.  After about a week or two the Puppy Mama and her puppies were flown north to find forever homes.  An even more exciting part of this story is that the Puppy Mama will be adopted by a long time friend of Alice's after she weans her puppies.  Although it broke Alice's heart to send the Puppy Mama off she did it to save the dogs lives.  I enjoyed following Alice's adventures on Facebook.  Alice continues to post many pictures of puppies and dogs that need to be placed in homes.  As I was walking by Alice on Thursday 1/19/12 I told her that she needed to stop posting the pictures or I was going to end up with a new dog.  She replied, why don't you try fostering.  I looked back and said, have you girl send me an application and I will look at it.  When I got home from school I found this in my email box.

Hope you are doing well! Alice Bowser referred me to you..she said she may be interested in fostering for the rescue. We would love to have you help us save some wonderful dogs. We provide all the vet care, dog food, crates, and anything the dogs needs. We just ask that you love, care, and socialize the dog, getting them acclimated to family life while we find their forever home. :) Part of the foster responsibility is to take the foster dog to and from the vet appt. Our rescue vet is at Roxboro Animal Hospital. They are very good to the rescue and take great care of our dogs.
For the spay/neuter appts, the dog can be dropped off the day before surgery anytime between 4:00-5:45pm and pick up the next day after surgery between 4:00-5:45pm. The foster commitment for the dogs are usually between 2-5 weeks. I am attaching a foster application for your completion. Please return to me via email. Thanks so much!!
After dinner on Thursday I mentioned the fostering idea to the family.  The response was overwelming!  Fred and Charlie were not very interested at first.  Carrie Beth really wanted to be a foster mom!

Carrie Beth looking at Fred with big tears and tons of drama:  I have wanted to be a foster mom all my life.
Fred:  You don't even know what a foster mom is.
Carrie Beth loudly:  Yes I do!  It is when you take care of a dog for a short time and then you give it to the real family.
Fred suprisingly:  Well I guess you do know what it is!  Ok.
Charlie and Carrie Beth yelling:  We are getting a new dog.

The kids and I filled out the application and emaild it off to Rhonda with this note.

Hi Rhonda! Let me know how we can help! Nicole
